Candlelight Etiquette

Those of us who have been a part of a Chrysalis weekend know the importance of each part of the experience. The Candlelight Dinner is no exception.

Before the caterpillars hear the marriage and single life talks, they are treated to a beautiful candlelight dinner served by butterflies of the opposite sex. The idea behind this is to share with the caterpillars that there are good Christian people in their communities to be in a relationship with. With this being said, we want to remind all butterflies that candlelight dinner is part of a spiritual renewal weekend, not a singles cruise. To uphold the integrity of the weekend, we are asking that you adhere to the following guidelines.

Guys:

-No jeans

-Shirt and tie preferred, although nice dress shirts without ties are acceptable

-Sweaters and jackets are nice, but not required.

-If your mother or grandmother would think you are dressed well, then chances are you are dressed properly.

Girls:

-No jeans

-Skirts need to be at least knee length

-No bare mid-drifts. This is not the time to show off your belly button ring, no matter how cool it is!

-Please pay careful attention to the neckline of your top. Make sure it covers what it needs to cover, even if you bend over (get what we're trying to say?)

We want the candlelight dinner to be fun for all, but recently there have been some outfits that have made the caterpillars uncomfortable. Please take this into consideration. If the Weekend's Spiritual Director or a member of the Board does not think you are properly dressed, then you will be asked to stay in the kitchen.

Additionally, we would like to remind you that you are in a servant's role. You are here to serve the caterpillars. Limit your conversations with the caterpillars, serve their dinner and drinks and then leave the dining area. This flight is theirs and this time is especially important to building the relationships at the tables. Besides, you'll get to see their smiling faces again at the candlelight service later in the evening!

We want this experience to be the best possible one for the caterpillars. Thank you for following these guidelines.
